Info

Fisherman haul up glowing nets of florescent sea critters. Those are the neon blue flashes from thousands of Firefly Squid (Watasenia scintillans) ( ほたるいか , hotaru-ika ) squirmed around in the nets. It is Hotaru Ika season for the fisherman: every year in spring, these bioluminescent cephalopods come to Toyama Bay to lay there eggs in the open water.
