Poppy bee (Osmia papaveris or Hoplitis papaveris)

The poppy bee (Osmia papaveris or Hoplitis papaveris) are solitary wild bees that build their nests in sandy soil. The nest is lined with pieces of petals from the common poppy (Papaver rhoeas) and one egg placed on top of a food storage consisting of pollen and nectar. Afterwards, the nest is sealed so that the offspring can develop safely inside until a new bee emerges the next summer.
