Dolioletta sp. is a species of pelagic tunicate, also known as a doliolid. It is a small, transparent, gelatinous marine invertebrate up to three centimetre long. One remarkable aspect of Dolioletta sp. is its ability to undergo a phenomenon called "alternation of generations." This means that they have both asexual and sexual reproduction stages in their life cycle. They start as solitary individuals (known as oozooids) that reproduce asexually by budding, forming long chains or colonies. These chains consist of individuals of different sizes, with the youngest at the front and the oldest at the back. Shown here is the late nurse stage.
