Poppy bee (Osmia papaveris or Hoplitis papaveris)
The poppy bee (Osmia papaveris or Hoplitis papaveris) is a wild solitary leaf-cutting bee that lines its nest with pieces of petals from the common poppy (Papaver rhoeas). The bee cuts pieces about as large as a fingernail from the poppy petals with its mandibles, bundles them underneath its body and transports them to the nest. Dozens of such pieces are collected and placed inside the nest one after one. Bamberg, Germany | Mohnbiene, Mohn-Mauerbiene (Osmia papaveris), Landkreis Bamberg, Deutschland
