This anglerfish commonly occurs in the open sea and is closely associated with the floating Sargassum Weed. It is perfectly disguised in carpets of sea weed where it waits for prey organisms that actually seek shelter there. A patch of Sargassum Weed was floating by our boat after one of our dives near Raja Ampat and we jumped back into the water to look for the fish. The main challenge in photographing this animal really was to find it. It took many people and a lot of time to finally find one – although we were systematically looking for it.
